(74” x 88½”) This pattern makes the most of a large scale print and its companion pieces. The large print anchors the quilt as the outside border and is repeated in the center blocks. The small print serves as the alternate blocks, softening the boldness of the large print. The sashing, bright little cornerstones and stripe border combine to keep the look interesting but not too busy. I like to use flat piping, also called a flange, to add a little pop of accent color. The piping (or flange) is stitched to the first border with the folds facing the center. The raw edges of the piping, or flange, are sandwiched between the first and second borders. You can leave the flange free or topstitch next to the fold to keep it flat. It adds a more textural element to the quilt than just using a simple 1/2” border. The stripe is repeated in the cornerstones and the binding repeats the accent color of the flat piping, pulling all the parts (and companion prints) together.
